Can you recite your retention plan?
Retention is a huge piece in the hiring process. Do you have a plan for retention? Can you recite it right now without looking for it? What is your retention rate?
You could probably tell me what you do specifically when it comes to retention but you probably don’t know the company’s retention plan. This is probably because your company doesn’t have a comprehensive retention plan in place. We all know retention is a huge piece of the hiring process.
Do you have a plan for retention? What is your retention rate?
At this point, if you aren’t able to answer these questions you are ready to run into your HR office to ask about the company's retention plan.
Employee retention is a concern in every industry but because of the high demand in healthcare; it is imperative. EZhealthcarejobs.com wrote an article, Words from a recruiter, in which it talks about the small applicant pool to draw new hires from. It dissipates more every day. Recruiters are struggling on finding new talent; where are they? You already have them, you already have great talent because you already hired them.
However, the healthcare industry is not sufficiently addressing employee retention. Healthcare employees are tired and burnt out. They don’t want to work anymore and yet we are asking for them to work more than 40 hours a week. And they do! How are we showing them our appreciation? If you are solely relying on their paycheck as a token of appreciation you are sadly mistaken. I’m sure at first, they appreciated it but how long can that last? They are burnt out. Now the money doesn’t matter. Healthcare employees are leaving their profession they loved so much. How do you appreciate them and motivate them to stay?
Keep in mind that agencies are waiting in the wings to offer your healthcare staff a higher rate of pay and flexible hours. No mandating. No weekend or holiday requirements.
