Basic Healthcare Virtual-Interview Etiquette
Virtual interviews are the new norm here so here are some tips of basic etiquette.
1.) Be conversational
You'll want to be an active listener, but still engage in conversation. Don’t forget, your interviewer is human too. And let’s be honest...you are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you.
2.) Speak Clearly
What you have to say is important and should be heard.
3.) Smile
Even if you are on the phone and the interviewer can’t see you, you can hear a smile over the phone.
It promotes a positive tone and may allow you to feel more at ease.
4.) Dress professionally
Why? Even if your interviewer cannot see you, your professional attire may help you present better, so avoid sitting in your PJ’s or slouching on the couch however you can keep the fuzzy slippers on.
A commonly asked question from nurses and aides is – Is it okay to wear scrubs for the interview? I think yes since that is what you would be wearing on a daily basis. Just make sure they are cleaned and wrinkle free. However, nothing beats a dress and/or a nice pair of slacks and dress shirt.
5.) Take notes
Interviews can cover a lot of material. The last thing you want to do is to forget any important information.
6.) Ask about the next steps
This will show your interviewer that you are eager and serious about the opportunity.
